Myofascial Release
What is Myofascial Release & How Does it Work?
Myofascial release therapy (MFR) is a type of manual therapy that targets muscles that have constrained, shortened, or tightened. Specifically, MFR seeks to recondition the membranes and fibers that connect, support, and protect your muscles. Further departing from other massage techniques, MFR targets “trigger points”, or areas on the neck, back, and shoulders from where the pain originates. However, a licensed massage therapist will locate stubborn myofascial areas that need release, applying gentle force to the affected area and targeting the trigger points rather than solely the point of pain. More specifically, your massage therapist will apply manual stretching and pressure to work out any stiffness and resistance in your myofascial fibers, enabling myofascial fibers to relax, flex, and stretch. While similar to some massage techniques, MFR uniquely separates itself from other massage techniques by focusing on reinvigorating the stiffened muscle fibers that function best when relaxed and malleable.
